Popham's Arboretum

Popham’s Arboretum

Sam Popham’s Arboretum is Sri Lanka’s only dryzone arboretum where trees and wildlife can be observed in their natural settings. Sam Popham created the arboretum in 1963 and donated it in 1989 to the Institute of Fundamental Studies (IFS) Kandy.

Spectacular bird life such as Eagles, Bulbuls and Orioles can be spotted here. The Arboretum holds a Night Safari through the wilderness on the trail of the rare Slender Loris which is endemic to Sri Lanka and India. Spotting the loris is a thrill and the guides really help visitors find them. If you are passionate about nature, the forests and the wildlife are well worth the visit.
